Monday, Monday, can't trust that day!

Day 8:

Monday, Monday, bada ba da da da. (listen here.)  "Monday, Monday, can't trust that day....Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be..."

Yep, Kees was quite difficult this morning.  It started out like a regular morning, just Kees was a little bit more demanding about his juice and malt balls.  I tried to get them as fast as possible, but when dealing with a cranky (possibly still sick) 3 year old, fast isn't fast enough.  Can't remember exactly what happened.  Kora tried to touch something of his, he tried to force her out the front door, and when I told him he couldn't make her go outside... a meltdown ensued.  Yep, Monday morning NOT so good to me!  After a warning, I gave him a time out in the bedroom, but made the mistake of closing the door, which GREATLY escalated his fit and added scratching at the door. Seriously, I know he likes cats, but that's a bit dramatic.  In the meantime, Doug is trying to finish up his language study session with Kruu Jeab and they are both looking at me like I just woke the dragon.  Somewhere in there, I started crying, just a smidge and decided I was going to have to cancel my Thai study for the day and do some hard parenting to deal with Mr. Cranky-pants and his terrible attitude of destruction...forgot to mention he ripped all the bedding off the bed and threw it everywhere.  I opened the door, told Kees he needed to calm down and WHEN he got calm I wanted him to come find me so we could talk. Then I escorted Kora, who by the way was quite entertained by Kees's dramatics and kept pointing and squeling, to the office or safe haven.  I explained to Doug the situation and then, he finished up and went to check on our pint size love. In the meantime, Kora and I showed Kruu Jeab our Easter eggs and before long Kees came out and acted as though none of the earlier shenanigans had ever taken place.  Monday morning crisis averted!  So we all played with Kruu Jeab and she stayed the full hour I would have been studying and it ended up being really good Thai conversation practice, which I'm definitely in need of, so all's well that ends well.
Show Kruu Jeab our Easter treats!
Later in the day, while Kora was napping and Daddy was studying, Kees and I took our monthly trip shopping to Yok and Makro.  I sometimes end up at Yok a couple times a month, but Makro is like our version of Sam's club, so I usually stock up at the beginning of the month.  I bought natural peanut butter in a bag, tons of juice, tons of yogurt, and tons of cheese.  Just the basics!  I've decided that cheese no longer categorizes as a "luxury", I've been able to find it at a pretty reasonable price and I am almost certain it truly is necessary for my life.  We don't drink much milk because it tastes wonky, so we get our calcium from yogurt and cheese.
He never wants his picture taken, but I do it anyway.  My hair is so crazy and it's not even humid yet.  I told Doug I was going to shave it so I would be cooler and I could save money on shampoo and conditioner.  He didn't get too excited about it, but then again, he never does. ;)

On our way to Yok. We drive on the left side of the road here.

On our way home we got stopped by a ginormous truck and I bought 6 bags of coconut water.  I am slightly obsessed with coconut water.  I think I like the fact that it's sort of trendy with people who exercise, like my cousin Lacee, but it's crazy expensive in the states and cheap here.  So I feel like one of the cool kids, even though I don't really exercise and I'm not really cool.
Yep, this stopped traffic, long enough for me to snap a photo.
Heavenly coconut water, and my sweet dealer.  She always gives me drive through type service cause she knows I usually have kiddos in the car.  Love her!

I bought Kora a hat last week for Easter. Kees was jealous, and wanted one too, so I scrounged around and found the black hat on top. But Sir Fashion wanted a "soft" hat like Kora's.  So, I bought him one today.  So cute!  He was really good for all of our shopping despite the MANY questions, most of which involved, "why are we going to so many places, and why are we buying so much stuff?"

When I got home Doug told me our friends Ric and Sharon were coming over to celebrate that they are DONE with learning central Thai.  I'm a little jealous...maybe someday it'll finally be us!  Doug asked if there was something we could do special for them to celebrate, so I made yet another cake!  Can you believe I would try that again?  Well I did, and guess what there was only one small hiccup and it wasn't related to the cake itself.  I decided to make a marshmallow/cream cheese filling for the cake, but when I tried to melt the marshmallows they turned into weird toasted packing peanuts.  WHAT?!  I've melted marshmallows before, not sure what happened to these, but I had some Jet Puff marshmallows that Doug's mom had brought me and when I started over, they melted just fine, so it must have just been the brand of marshmallows I bought.
Weird marshmallows, my life feels like a series of science experiments gone terribly wrong.
Fact: I love Curious George and I'm very fond of stories where the main character seems to get into ridiculous situations, you know, like Amelia Bedelia, but lately I feel like I'm the main character in my own slapstick comedy reality series, but it's not always funny when YOU'RE the bumbling idiot.  I shouldn't tell on myself like this, but I even bonked Kora's head (not very hard Gramee) on the door jam when I was walking into the kitchen tonight.  Yikes, we really should install cameras in our house, maybe we could make some money to fund my cheese habit.

This jing jok is stalking me while I'm trying to blog, it knows today is Monday! (jing jok is pronounced jeeng joke)
And for my good word of the day,  another Mandisa song, "These Days". (listen here.)  This one is perfect for me today.  I had a rough start on a Monday morning, but like the song, God is teaching me to "Learn to love these days, Life along the way, In the middle of the crazy, God your love is so amazing!"  Another line in there says, "It's funny what you use to help me grow."  I've been meditating on that lately, seeing the ups and downs and crazy twists and turns as divinely planned by God.  He has either allowed or orchestrated all of those "interruptions" and he's using them to help us grow.  So today, as you are facing MONDAY, look for God in all the busyness and craziness and thank him for walking with you through it all!

  1. Thank you for the blogs. I love each one! Those marshmallows actually look like they would taste yummy all by themselves.

  2. The only marshmallows we can get here are imported from Korea, and they do the same thing! No rice krispy treats for me :(

  3. We all have our meltdowns. Just need our space. There are times Kees acts like his Gramee. :)
