Manic Monday: Bible Study

Now that we are back in the states, one thing I'm really appreciating is having extra adults who are teaching my kids the bible.  It doesn't let me off the hook, as their mom, but it's nice to know what we teach at home is being re-inforced.

Our church has clip boards in the back for the kids. There are coloring sheets, crayons, and a sucker.  The top page is a place for them to take sermon notes, and answer a few questions about the service.  Not to mention the amazing Sunday School teachers they have!  They always have the coolest activities and centers set up for the kids.

We have "bible books" at our house, various ones we've picked up along the way.  We have a box behind our couch where the "bible books" go, and a special section on the kids bookshelf as well. That makes it easy to say, "Let's read a bible book, can you go pick one?"  And they know exactly where to find them.  For a couple of weeks, Kora insisted she start her day by reading a stack of bible books.  She loves, loves, loves books.

I snagged these books at a thrift store.

And of course, we've gone through this book multiple times, it's the children's book that GoodSeed offers.  Great illustrations, it comes with audio CDs, and questions after each section.  You can order it here. These make great gifts!  Our kids love it!
This is one of Kora's favorite bible books!  It has a verse at the top, and there's a poem on each page that goes with the verse.

I also make a point to talk to my kids about fiction and non-fiction books. That some stories we read are pretend and some of them really happened.  The bible books tell us about real events, and they are a way for us to learn about God.  Kees understands that pretty well. Kora is a little young to fully understand, but it never hurts to say simple phrases, even to a two year old, that present the fact that the bible is different, special, and important!

We've also been loving the Christmas season!  Our friend Sandy gave the kids a set of nativity window clings, and a porcelain nativity.  When we went to see Christmas lights, it warmed my Momma heart to hear Kora say, "I want to go see Jesus!"  She recognized the baby in the manger right away!

So thankful that we have access to so many adults who are investing in our kids, and we have resources available to us, like books that teach God's word.  It reminds me of the many children around the world who don't have access to the gospel. The parents who have limited or no access either.  I'm thankful that God has allowed us to be a part of changing that!  So today, I pray for the missionaries around the world, the underground churches, and the many individuals who work or donate towards the spread of the gospel.  We may feel our part is insignificant, but trust me when I say, God can take our meager offering and do great things!
